Hi.

Welcome to my blog!

Visions of Quarantine

Visions of Quarantine

Just recently, I posted about McLean, Ted, and my rather mundane life now that Colombia has implemented a mandatory home quarantine, forcing all 3 of us to spend more time together than is normally comfortable (Ted would like for you to think he’s the biggest loser in this entire situation). Now on day 24, the only updates we have are: aside from sleeping, Ted suddenly prefers to spend most of his time standing on the balcony spying on the neighbors; I successfully baked my first cake at high altitude; we started participating in weekly virtual trivia put on by the embassy here; 22 days into the quarantine, I FINALLY convinced McLean to play ONE game of Boggle with me, but then discovered that “Scrabble” has an app, which is now how I spend most of my time; we have jumped on the “Zoom Happy Hour/Dinner Party” bandwagon with friends and family and we are loving it; and McLean and I became so desperate the other day that we both ran a 5k in our basement garage (to give you an idea of the level of desperation, ONE down and back is .05 miles), and we both reported that “it actually wasn’t that bad” so really, we’ve gone insane.

Since those events are barely even worth reporting, I decided to check in with friends and family all over the world to see how they’re coping with the quarantine. Along with the check-in, I also requested a picture depicting how they’re spending this unprecedented amount of time at home (or for the medical professionals, how they’re coping at work). The result has been a fantastic array of pictures spanning most continents, of people making the best of dire situations armed with smiles, jokes, and a commitment to helping each other (especially the healthcare professionals highlighted here). This post rapidly turned into my favorite post on this blog, and I’m thrilled to share it with all of you, in hopes that it brightens your perhaps mundane and humdrum existence at home. I hope these pictures bring you as much joy as they brought me, and may all of you be blessed with good health, safety, and endless amounts of love and happiness despite this trying time.
